FLUIDEFI’s CEO and co-founder, Lisa Loud, will present a talk on “Why TradFi and DeFi Are Not So Different After All” at Blockchain Hub Davos 2023 hosted by CasperLabs & CV Labs in conjunction with the World Economic Forum Annual Meeting. Blockchain Hub Davos brings together business and government leaders worldwide to explore how blockchain is a crucial driver of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. During her talk, Loud will examine what lessons the recent failures such as FTX can teach us, and compare traditional finance (TradFi) with decentralized finance (DeFi), showing why serious asset managers need to be honing their skills for the coming wave of DeFi 2.0.
As the world of finance continues to evolve, it becomes increasingly clear that the divide between TradFi and DeFi is not as great as it may seem. While they may operate in different ways and use different technologies, both TradFi and DeFi offer a range of financial services such as lending, borrowing, and payments, and are built upon an exchange of value in various forms. In contrast to the decades of traditional finance that have evolved to suit those in power, DeFi has the potential to disrupt and solve endemic problems of corruption and a self-serving banking system, bypassing the traditional institutions entirely and setting up a parallel financial rail, unimpeded by bureaucracy. With DeFi, there are no approvals to obtain. Anyone can create their own digital bank, governed by trusted software. By understanding the weaknesses of TradFi and how not to repeat them in DeFi, asset managers can position themselves to take advantage of the unique opportunities and challenges that DeFi presents.
After her talk on “Why TradFi and DeFi Are Not So Different After All” Loud will join the panel discussion “Reports of Decentralised Finance Demise Are Greatly Exaggerated… DeFi 2.0 is Coming”.
